The Dreaded Lurgy (Day 5)
It was a busy Wednesday morning, and supposedly just a half-day of actual work, as we are closed for staff training this afternoon. This did not turn out as planned. The Dreaded Lurgy had a few more tricks up its sleeve, and I felt much worse again this morning. I got to work and was greeted with comments of ‘You do look a funny colour’ and ‘Are you sure you should be here?’ which did not bode well. Colleagues sidled away, hurriedly donning plague masks as I passed, and for some reason, I found a large black cross painted on my office door. I spoke to a friend who runs the local vaccine hub. It turns out there is a particularly nasty strain of virus doing the rounds… not COVID, but making people feel pretty rotten and lasting a lot longer than usual, with symptoms dragging on for about ten days.
To add insult to injury, the office IT system seems as healthy as I am this morning… with loooong lags and frequent system crashes. My morning work dragged on till about half past three in the end… at which point I gave up in disgust and decided to go home, get some sleep and try again tomorrow.
