Two Quotes

“In the end, we’re all just walking each other home.” - Ram Dass -

To say I am overwhelmed by your stars, hearts, comments, and support for my blip from yesterday, is an understatement. Especially heartwarming were your comments about the courage of our granddaughter Elle, and her handling of an awful racist situation in her class. As a teacher of 30 years, I can tell you how hard something like that is to do. Doing the right thing is often the hardest thing, and she chose the right thing. We are beyond proud of her.

In light of your incredible support, here was my major takeaway from this one blip: THIS is the resistance. This is how we fight back, even as small and inconsequential as it seems. Look at how many people rallied around my humble, albeit fiery words. This is the beauty of community, and few communities support each other like the Blip community does. How we resist is by shining the light that each one of us can bring, no matter how faint we think it is, and shine it into this darkness. Think how much brighter it will be with our collective lights shining together.

In a way, my rant yesterday reminded me of my teaching days. My students knew that I was up for a good rant about once a month, when I had to get up on my soapbox. This was the inspiration for this book of mine:

I promise that I won’t spend the majority of my blips on this vile, awful human being, and this horrific situation. I will look for the beauty in my corner of the world, even if it’s just bringing you another picture of the adventures of our feline prankster, Peanut.

Here’s the second quote, this from one of my favorite rock voices, the late David Crosby, in his song “Long Time Gone.”

“Speak out, you’ve got to speak out against the madness. You’ve got to speak your mind, if you dare.”

Thanks again, Blip family. Big love to you all.
