Today's the day ........................ for the agapanthus story

When my brother and sister-in-law were negotiating to buy the lovely house they now live in, the advertising brochure giving all the details of room sizes etc had a picture on the cover. It was a view of the back of the house - and it featured a big pot of blue agapanthus. My brother, who had a fondness for agapanthus, jokingly asked if the asking price for the house included them. "Oh no" came the reply, "We're taking them ......"

However, when the day of the move came - the big pot was still there. So perhaps the vendors changed their minds - or perhaps in the end there were just too many other things to think about - but my brother got to keep the agapanthus after all.

Over the years, he has subdivided the original plants several times - and at this time of the year, they make a stunning display the length of the border next to the house.

And it's nice to think that a little bit of the history of this house and garden lives on ...........................
