Summit

A continent-wide summit on energy is being hosted by Tanzania this week. The government is at pains to present a sterile and efficient view of Dar es Salaam, and these are adjectives that wouldn’t be top of the list to describe the city by anyone who lives here. It meant there was a decree ordering people to work at home and avoid clogging up the roads. I found it a strange decision to cater for what must be a limited number of delegates whilst impacting hundred of thousands, if not millions of citizens.

The roads were of course quieter than ever but I went to the office anyway as I’ve always preferred the structure of an office to working from home. And the journey to and fro was delightfully quiet.
