Mother
My blip today is a rare photograph of my mother who would have been 101 years old today. My mother was orphaned at the age of two and left school at 14 to work at a wholesale grocery business in St Helen's, Lancashire. During the Second World War she worked in a canteen serving meals to RAF bomber crews knowing that, for many, it would be their last meal. Here she is in happier times, sitting on the steps of a grand house in Dorset. The house belonged to Sir Ronald Bodley Scott, the Royal physician. My mother was his housekeeper. The photograph was taken by my father in April 1951. What I like best though is the back where she has written "I made the dress myself. The teeth are mine too!".
