Back on a trail

First time for the hubby to be attempting a short hike since he had back issues at Christmas. We walked almost 3 miles at Congaree National Park. Perfect walking weather.

This is the beginning of the trail behind the visitor center. An elevated boardwalk circles a big portion of the swamp because of standing water and wetlands. But there is a dirt trail also which we walked since the earth is softer than wood! We saw a family of wild hogs but they were not close enough for a photo and a few birds, a northern flicker, red headed woodpecker and various small birds. It won’t be long until nesting season here.

It was great to get out in the forest. It has been too long.
