Buttercup Dairy
Today’s blip is of the Buttercup Dairy in Tranent (now a nail shop).
The Buttercup Dairy chain had a rich history with having over 250 shops in eastern Scotland by the 1920s. However, by 1965 all the shops had closed and Andrew Ewing, the founder died penniless in 1956, through a mixture of misfortune and being generous to the needy.
He does however leave a tangible history in many of the beautiful shop fronts that still exist in many Scottish towns today. Here’s a link to more info if you are interested.
These tiles in Tranent were restored with a grant from Historic Scotland in 2001.
I hope you have had an enjoyable Sunday.
