Waiting his turn

This morning we visited Mottisfont Abbey (NT property near Romsey) with our friends M&P from Salisbury and L&P from Basingstoke. P continues to make a very good recovery from his heart surgery last November, and is making the most of his twice- weekly cardio rehab classes.
We enjoyed the winter garden and riverside walk, while in the famous rose garden all was quiet apart from the activity of birds attracted to a feeder full of sunflower hearts. Here is a Chaffinch waiting his turn.
Currently in the house is a fascinating  exhibition of paintings by Victorian watercolourists who travelled all over Europe and the Middle East to find inspiration. The artists were Albert Goodwin, Hercules Brabazon Brabazon (there's a name, or three, to conjure  with!) and Walter Tyndale, and the works on display are for sale.
