Embroidery panels (1575)

Back to dull, grey, and dismal today, so we went for a visit to Beningbrough Hall. The exhibition of the astonishing botanical mosaics of Mary Delaney  is still on, but today, I've decided to blip these 16th-century embroidered octagons. These were stitched by no less than Bess of Hardwick and Mary Queen of Scots. They are usually kept at Hardwick Hall but are currently on display at Beningbrough.
