The 22deg Halo

A very different blip today!!
A friend happened to look up into the sky and saw this rainbow around the sun!! Let us all know and so we charged up onto the roof to capture it. Unfortunately the cloud cover had lifted so it was quite bright and I didnt want to look right into the sun so got 3/4 of it instead. I have not seen this before so decided it had to be my blip!
According to google it is t's also known as a 22 degree halo, or sun halo. A 22° halo is caused by tiny ice crystals contained in high cirrostratus clouds. The sunlight (or moonlight) REFRACTS through the ice at a 22 degree angle.
