The Card Party
Hubby and I were glued to the tv all evening hoping and praying they’d find survivors from that horrific plane accident. We finally went to bed around 2:30 am. May those lost rest in peace and may their family and friends be given strength to overcome their grief. I was awake at 6:30 but still in bed when Parker texted at 6:45. He was staying home because he’s caught the bug that is going around. He wrote to say “his doctor told him the best medicine to help him get better would be Gram’s French toast.” I hopped up, made him several slices and hubby dropped them off. We got ready and picked my mother up from Barbara’s house a little before 9:00. Momma only knew we were taking her out for the day. We met my sister and BIL at Momma’s house. They brought homemade soup and ice cream. Hubby made homemade bread last night. I made an apple crisp when we got there so it would be warm. We listened to her phone messages and tried to return those calls. At noon, Momma’s friends who used to play cards with her on Wednesday surprised her for a game. We served them lunch, they played and then we served dessert. Momma’s godson and his wife stopped by to say hello. She was thrilled with her day. It helped that she and her partner won most of the games. And I peeked at her cards while my sister and I were cleaning the kitchen. She had terrible cards at times but still was able to make her bid. After everyone left, we gave her a Valentine gift from all four of us. That seemed to be the icing on her cake. My sister and BIL took her back to Barbara’s. We came straight home; lack of sleep is catching up on us. Wishing you enough rest tonight. Be safe. Thanks for stopping by. “Life is not a matter of holding good cards, but sometimes, playing a poor hand well.” - Jack London
