Sundial

Coming home the pretty way from B&Q we made it even prettier by calling in at Inveresk Lodge Garden for a potter round. For once the sun shone on the famous sundial - I have twice seen it in less than perfect conditions (here and here, where a description is given).

I noted the flowers currently gracing the borders, see extra collage, and an interesting result of felling, extra 2. Despite a chilly breeze the sunny south-facing slope and wall were pleasantly warm as we wandered down to the pond, where there is a bird hide. I look forward to birdwatching (and tadpole watching) at some point later in the year.

By then it was time to continue our journey home for a very late lunch.

Extra collage, L to R: Snowdrops (probably those blipped by edisteve recently); pussy willow blossom; early crocus - the thin, delicate variety.
Extra 2: I was struck by the deep orange colour of these logs, the bark resembled cherry but the cones on the nearby brash identified them as alder trees. we noted at least three felled, leaving a very short stump.
