Norwegian connection
This evening we attended an event at the local community cinema. 'The Heroes of Telemark' was on screen. This 1965 film with Kirk Douglas and Richard Harris, though displaying some Hollywood licence, is actually quite close to the truth, telling the story of the sabotage of a heavy water plant in Norway during Nazi occupation.
The link to Dumfries is, that over 1000 Norwegians stayed in the town in the mid-forties and supported the resistance. Rosefield Mills was the base for the Norwegian soldiers.
Now we are trying to save what is left of Rosefield Mills.
The main curator of the local museum service gave a great presentation on the Norwegian connection prior to the showing of the film.
