From Now On...

Days out…

… in Cambridge with John and Sheila were always great fun. They usually included a punt trip on the river. Always risky with John! D ended up in the river once due to John’s antics. We enjoyed several weekends away together but Cambridge days were favourites and included visits to John’s eldest sister and husband and visits to John’s Cambridge college.

Today we said our formal goodbyes to him in a wonderful service of thanksgiving. He was the only son of his parents, sandwiched between two older and two younger sisters and today two of his sisters gave great tributes to their brother. Sadly Sheila died in 2012 and Owen their middle child, in 2020 but two of their three children spoke with love and humour about their father.

John and Sheila arrived at our church in Forest Hill just after their wedding in 1970 and we became good friends. They came to our wedding in 1973. Their children arrived before ours but that never mattered and childhood fun was happily shared. My extra.

Today was a happy sharing of memories and we’re very grateful for the gift of good friendship which easily picks up where it left off.
