Parenthood is …
Letting your dinner go cold because you have to stop and feed the baby.
Little Miss A came home today and now the whole energy of the house is different (in a good way) as we adjust our personal orbits to accommodate the new little moon in our domestic solar system. Space has to be found for all the paraphernalia that goes with a baby. And of course eating arrangements are unpredictable.
It was a sobering as well as a joyous day. TSM led us on this Holocaust Remembrance Day in remembering the Jewish victims of the Shoah and we remembered too the disabled, the Romany, the political, the gay and other people who were murdered. Sobering also for my brother who had his first birthday since the death of his partner two months ago.
So a day of mixed emotions but the joy of a new baby in the house was an assertion of life in the midst of loss. She is pretty, hearty, noisy, and lovely. The cats are coping with the change fairly well, but their test will come later when the helpless baby grows into a tail-grabbing toddler. But let’s take things one day at a time, starting with this welcoming home.
