The crow on the tenement
Went up to the West End for yoga, then came back via non-obvious bus routes in order to get messages from the big Sainsbury's at Meadowbank. It was well and truly raining by the time I got out, and there was a 25 minute wait for the bus. The only photo I took was of this crow on the tenement opposite the bus stop, which was also displaying the Palestinian flag - the latter has probably overtaken the Ukranian flag in terms of popularity amongst the tenements. It's not clear from the photo, but everything was extremely drookit, including the flag and the crow.
Made me think of the Crow on the Cradle, a Sydney Carter song that I can't have heard for decades. By the time I'd got home I'd remembered the whole of the first verse (and some of the rest).
The sheep's in the meadow, the cow's in the corn
Now is the time for a child to be born
He'll cry for the moon and he'll laugh at the sun
And if he's a boy he'll carry a gun
Sang the crow on the cradle.
Just so.
