Climbers.
While I was working I arranged a visit to Florence Mine, Egremont. This was a haematite (iron ore) mine, as West Cumbria had this resource, so this ore plus coal and limestone produced the steel made at Workington.. The steelworks has long gone, but the rails they made can be found all over the world. I had mentioned to parents that this would be a 'messy' trip so old clothes should be worn. Well black wellies became red and you can guess the red did get on clothes, you couldn't avoid it. Anyway this is a small piece of that ore. The blood red ore is also called 'kidney ore' as it looks like a kidney. By the by Jane was a haematologist in the local hospital.
These two 'Little People' have scaled the heights of this haematite mountain-its been a play day today.
