Edit regarding the photo of an equipment problem: these ski poles do not have any baskets. In case you get involved in a ski accident, ski poles without baskets turn into sharp weapons... In fact, in Italy (and maybe in some other countries, too) it is not allowed to use ski poles without baskets due to the security issues.
