My Baker Theater
As we came out from the Bellingham Symphony concert, the late sun was casting an orange glow on the tower of the Mt Baker Theater. I had to grab a shot. The concert was great as usual. The concert featured a violin concerto by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges. He was the illegitimate son of an African slave and a plantation owner born in Guadeloupe. His father took him to Paris where he rose to improbable heights in French society as a celebrated violinist-composer and fencer. He is sometimes known as the black Mozart though he was born before Mozart was. The 2022 movie “Chevalier” is about his life. This is the first time I had heard of him or his music. I liked the piece and Dawn Posie, the orchestra’s principal violinist, played it very well. As always it was a delightful concert.
