Despite forgetting to turn the furnace off last night we slept really well last night. I staggered out of bed to turn it off and was amazed to see that it was 6am! That much relatively uninterrupted sleep is quite rare for me.
After a relatively leisurely start Matt went with us up the hill to Spike's meadow and who should we run into on the way out but Jim and Dana so , after a brief mid-street conversation, they piled in with us and we all repaired to Trail House for coffee. Conversation ranged over a variety of subjects, studiously avoiding the havoc already being wreaked by the Felon and his sidekick, the richest man in the world who has nothing better to do than make life more difficult for those who aren't. There is absolutely no way any coffeehouse conversation can be described as 'putting the world to rights' here. We just don't go there.
I took the picture of this interesting cloud on the way back from taking Matt to the airport. A short but very good visit. I had been following it for quite awhile but trees and houses prevented a good shot of it. John kept saying if I waited until the intersection there would be one. Needless to say, that wasn't quite true, but I sort of liked this contrasts. It was one of the few clouds in the sky and, without consulting my Cloud Appreciation Society handbook am guessing it is a wind driven lenticular one. They generally tend to hover over mountain tops, but there were gusty low-level winds about all morning.
I don't know what the high temperature was today, but in front of our house, it felt quite spring-like and I worked on pruning the citrus trees (lime and tangerine) in front of our house. Both are still dripping with fruit despite frequent harvests and bags given away. John was horrified that I was cutting off whole branches covered with fruit and I pointed out that we could still take the fruit off the cut branches and that it was weighing them down so much that they needed to be cut. He would also leave a branch with a flower still blooming on it too because he can't bear to cut it.
