Tirkkonen

A part of the facade of Tirkkonen's house, one of my favourite buildings in Tampere. The house was built in 1900-1901 for Maria Tirkkonen's textile and thread store, designed by Lars Sonck and Birger Federley. Mrs. Tirkkonen and her husband had started as travelling pedlars in 1869 and worked their way up in society. She continued trading with her son after her husband's death. Six years later the store was enlarged and equipped with a fancy pneumatic tube transport system. In 1910, Tirkkonens had the first van in town. (Thanks to the Finnish wikipedia for the information)

I captured this on a little walk in central Tampere with Triinu before going to the movie theatre. Jussi came with us, but he wanted to see a different film, which started earlier, so we had some time to spend on town. The one we saw was "Never Alone" by Klaus Härö. Excellent film!

Afterwards we had dinner at restaurant Plevna. It has been quite a while since last time.
