Whisky Tasting
We had a long lie in this morning after a most enjoyable evening last night.
It started with a very nice pink fizz.
Then the Burns Night meal accompanied by suitable Scottish music. Including
' Donald where's your Troosers?" Sung by Andy Stewart. Who can remember the White Heather Club on TV in the 1960s?
C had tied tarten scarves round the chairs and we had real candles round the room.
A lovely atmosphere.
Our meal started with Scottish smoked trout, beetroot, crème fraîche and horseradish sauce and fresh dill..
Main course:
Haggis and Rumbledethumps ( potatoes, swede, cabbage topped with Cheddar cheese)
Whisky cream sauce.
Dessert:
Caranachan - Toasted oats, cream, honey, whisky, raspberries.
Then it was on to the whisky tasting.
Our hosts were very knowledgeable about a subject that D especially enjoys.
We tasted 7 whiskies altogether
Some you can see in the photo.
My favourite was a 16yr aged Lagavulin from Islay.
Last one we tasted was 60.8% Glasgow 1770.
Oh my!!
We certainly learnt a lot. It seems much more complex than wine.
Glad we only had a few yards to go as we staggered home after midnight!
A big thank you to our two dear friends and neighbours.
