Gemma Reviews: The Running Man

After a weekend of drinking that would make George Best seem like a reformed character, I decided to chill on Sunday night and watch this on C5...they really are starting to show some pretty decent films just now!  This is another one of my favourites...back in the day when Arnie had his famous one-liners, obvious story lines and basically just him getting to show off exactly what those muscles of his could do. 
 
I say this all the time but I love Arnie films and there are so many things in this film that make me laugh..especially some of the good ol' Arnie lines "I live to see you eat that contract, but I hope you leave enough room for my fist cause I'm gonna ram it into your stomach and break your god-damn spine....!"
 
I also love some of the game shows advertised..."Climbing for dollars" looked like great fun to watch (OK, I know I'm sick).  With all these reality TV shows out just now, it could just be matter of time... 
 
Arnie is caught trying to do a bunk after escaping from prison and is forced to appear on the most popular game show of all time..a game show which sees convicts travel through different zones all whilst getting chased by stalkers set out to kill them.  The audience love it and having the "Butcher of Bakersfield" is turning out to be a winner for Damon Killian (the presenter of the show)  What the public don't know is that Arnie is, of course, innocent and was set up to show that he killed hundreds of un-armed people.  Arnie's not liking this one single bit so sets out to clear his name. 
 
As I said, this is just a typical Arnie film..you know what's going to happen next, you know that when he says "I'll be back Killian" he means it and you just know who's going to die....and that's the whole point. 
 
Oh yes, definitely a great 80's film...I'm lovin it!!
