Scrambling up The Bell has been on my wish list for a while so coming to Coniston was my opportunity, especially when Andy said that he intended to do that today. Their plan was to follow The Bell, grade 1, with a grade 2 scramble to get further up The Old Man.

I'd forgotten how steep the Walna Scar Road is at the Coniston end and I was quite tired before we began the scramble, but it was good fun and we enjoyed it. Both Sally and I said that we didnt want to follow it with a grade 2 scramble, whereupon Andy said he wasn't prepared to split the group, so we carried on together to the summit of the Old Man.

We're booked into The Black Bull this evening for a meal, I hope it's good!
