Precision Strike

I really quite like the Fringe photocalls at the Traverse Theatre. They are always well-organised and theatrically interesting and I like to go in not knowing too much and see what I make of it, rather than having any pre-concieved idea of what will make the shot. The person organising the photocall keeps a very careful eye on the time, usually just ten minutes. They call out as the clock ticks down, 'five minutes left... two minutes to go... last minute... thirty seconds... last ten seconds... that's it!' Today's teatime shoot for the Belgian group Ontroerend Goed was unfortunately running a little late. I'm not sure if it was the classic early days Fringe problem of earlier shows over-running and knocking everyone else's timings out or if they'd had some problems of their own. Either way, things were getting tight by the time we were ushered downstairs and were told, 'sorry, just five minutes'. The cast went through a couple of set pieces for the gathered photographers and we tried to get a sense of the show in the brief time we had.
Afterwards I checked the Traverse own brochure to see what it's all about, "Five performers. Five Rounds. Your vote. One survivor. Multiple Fringe First-winning company Ontroerend Goed and the Border Project arms the audience with voting keypads in order to choose their favourite candidate among five actors."
