We were rummaging through some boxes earlier and we came across these photos taken a fair few years ago by the reporter on the Sunderland Echo. Dearest was the first woman in the North East to pass the advanced motorist certificate, she had her own driving school in the days when men wouldn’t entertain the thought of a female teaching them anything let alone how to drive! She schooled all the Nuns through their test, even convincing the Mother Superior that they should pin back their wimples so they could safely manoeuvre out of junctions.
