There Must Be Magic

Angels Watching Over Me

I have told you all the story of the tiny elephant ornament that a friend of mine in India sent to my parents for their Christmas tree, and how my friend and my dad became BFFs (at a distance) after that.

I have also spoken of the Christmas angel that we found behind the stereo, and how we rescued her and put her on the tree, just in time to be part of the latest holiday celebration.

And more recently, I told you the story of taking down the tree, and how Tiny Tiger came in like a wrecking ball on that one.

But here is the thing. What happens to our holiday creatures AFTER the tree comes down? What then, HUH?

Well, to make a long story short, the angel and the elephant refused to go back into a box of Christmas ornaments, to be stored for months and months. Oh no! No dark storage closet sequester for these two!

So we decided to invite the angel and the elephant to join our regular crew who hang out every day on the window sill in the master bedroom: Tiny Tiger, the Moose, and the Anteater. (The Anteater checks every new thing that comes into the house for ants; I mean, isn't that just lovely?)

The elephant was made to be an ornament, and so it hangs like a champ but it doesn't stand so good. Remember those colorful muffin tin liners I tried with the latest cheesy gratin potato fest

The silicone liners didn't work very well for that baking project, but a single muffin liner DOES make a good support for a tipsy elephant so it can stand better. (Accessibility accommodations on the fly! Dig it!) This is also how the elephant came by its new name, which is Cupcake, for obvious reasons. :-)

So here are my unlikely angels - or maybe, more likely, they are superheroes - watching over me. Am I the only one who has so many personal angels? I don't think so!

My soundtrack song is a personal favorite from the 80s, when life seemed so much more innocent: Amy Grant, with Angels Watching Over Me.
