The Winchers' Stance
Today's the day . . . . . . . . . . . to kiss goodbye
We set off for home today after a wonderful few days in Glasgow. We wondered if we would have as trouble-free a journey as we did on the way up - but we needn't have worried because everything went to plan, as before. We're so impressed with Scottish buses!
We left from Buchanan Street Bus Station - a very 'state-of-the-art' place, with upwards of 50 stances for sleek buses to glide in and out of - and take you to multiple destinations. The above is a Bronze sculpture of an embracing couple by artist John Clinch (1934-2001) that was installed inside Buchanan Bus Station in 1994. The actual name of the statue is The Winchers’ Stance, selected after a competition in the Evening Times.
It's a very striking piece of artwork and brought a smile to the faces of us and our fellow travellers .............
* To winch is a Scottish word originally meaning 'to kiss passionately' - but is used now to mean that you are going out with someone.
