You teach a man to fish
You give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. You teach him to fish, he catches his dinner regularly, gets a bit keen and has the idea that he can make some money out of it by selling more fish than he can eat himself to his friends. He starts to enjoys the extra income and so gets a boat and realises that by using nets he can catch tons and tons of fish. He goes on to form a fleet of successful trawlers that provide a range of seafoods to a diverse and wide customer base that spreads over Europe. The demand grows, and as customer behaviour dictated by supermarket and corporate profit-chasing is geared towards specific tastes and expectations, he plays a part in decimating the oceans' stock of natural species thus affecting multiple food chains and causing unknown damage to the wider environment.
Don't teach a man to fish. Men are greedy and ruin things for everyone.
(actually, that's a bit harsh on this guy - he was fishing for himself and was damn good at it. He caught a mackerel within about 20 secs of casting each time!)
