And THIS Is Why I Don’t Often…
… Go to second-hand book shops.
I’m a loose cannon.
Fortunately (?) my neck pain, at present, protected both the upper shelves and lower shelves from my scrutiny. This was the trawl from the middle!
I said to the bookseller, as I paid, ‘I shall probably have to hide these when I get home’. Without looking up she replied, ‘I’ve been doing that all my life’. No further words necessary.
I had a relative who worked at Scotland Yard, so I was intrigued by this title (by Sir Harold Scott who was Commissioner of the Met 1945-53). It looks as though it’s a very readable and interesting account. (I don’t expect it to mention my Great Uncle).
The watercolour book… Might nudge me to pick up my paints. I have heard experts recommend Jean Haines but haven’t sought out a book of hers. ‘Suitable for all abilities’ this one says on the back. To quote Billy Connolly, ‘That sounds like the very man for me’…
I shall report back, when leaning over a painting becomes easy again :-)
