Kampong Baru / Kuala Lumpur....

When travelling, I have come to notice a tendency for "locals" to disregard things that might be of interest to the visitor, in favour of a much more obvious list of attractions.

Pre-departure, I have a habit of checking the facebook page for that destination, and that's how I came across Kampong Baru. Its the remaining shanty town component of Kuala Lumpur within short reach of the iconic Petronas Towers that define the centre of town. My driver was highly sceptical dismissing it as just a run down left-over area with some restaurants the locals like. He told me no previous client had asked to be taken there. For my part I found it fascinating, whereas the architecture of the new post office building appealed far less.  My only regret is not having lunch there as opposed to the poor experience to be had in the KL Tower.
