No respite for those that deserve it not
After the exhaustion of yesterday’s activities, and despite having perhaps consumed too many of the spicy chicken wings, we managed to get up for today’s 8am start. I’ve railed about these 8am kick offs in the past and, as I am sure you will be expecting, I shall do so again. Seriously though, who in their right mind schedules a match at 8am?
This time, the Internationals U13s were playing against Gloucester Hornets. Gloucester is a pretty good team and, with half the team having undergone an exhausting 3-on-3 competitions yesterday (not to mention an evening in the pub), there was a little trepidation about the match. Needn’t have worried though – OISC swept to a 7-0 win and Ottawacker Jr. played very well. This is what putting himself out of his comfort zone with the U14s has done for him. It’s hard for me to comprehend how he can be this dominant in a higher age group, but he is really the one in charge of the team and is constantly shouting out instructions. I was never like that.
After having dropped off one of his team mates, we went home and had some breakfast. Then we sort of sat around in the twilight zone of not knowing whether to go for a nap or not. In the end, none of us did. We hung around doing various things – Ottawacker Jr. and Mrs. Ottawacker went next door to look after the cat and have a game of table tennis, while I wrote a couple of letters and then half-watched the Sunday football.
In the afternoon, Mrs. Ottawacker took Ottawacker Jr. to his goalkeeping session out in Blackburn Hamlet, while I prepared the Sunday roast (pork), made apple sauce, roast potatoes and roast sweet potatoes, carrots and bok choi. Having told everyone yesterday that I was stopping drinking for six months, I then had a couple of drinks. Mañana.
Back they came, and squeezed in a skype call with IGM in Victoria, before settling down to the dinner. Thankfully it all worked out (I am hopeless at pork and usually always dry it out too much as I am afraid of food poisoning) and we ate too much. Then we finished off The Durrells and had a very early night. Ottawacker Jr. might be coming down with something. There were definite sniffles and a husky voice sound. There again, it might just be the onset of puberty.
