Predilections

Marks and features in the landscape that resemble a cross have featured in my photos a number of times. I'm not quite sure what my fascination is based on, although I did grow up looking at maps, mainly for walking, on which of course the symbol of a cross has certain significance. Maybe it's just "here marks the spot".

I had watched this patch of ice develop over several days and wondered how to capture it. Here is my attempt. I like the abstract nature of the image with its subtle texture and blue tones.

Incidentally, I took this early in the morning when most of the scene was in shadow with a blue sky overhead. It was -4°F(-20°C). I did go out and shoot sunset later, but that's more of the same as in previous days.
