Castlesteads
This morning got eaten up by the annual excruciating, soul-sapping, exercise of sorting insurance. Then I set to work on the dripping bathroom tap (when did it all get so complicated?). Popped into town to check at the builders supply, replace a windscreen wiper, and then went for a walk in the gloamin’ and ignoring the proliferation of Private signs I went to have another look at Castlesteads (probable Iron Age fort lost to the woods up there). I always expect to get shot or stuck in a mantrap. On my way down I came across this upmarket poachers retirement spot, Dunroamin Duntrespassin.
With perfect timing I’ve just watched Monty Don at Lowther … the smarter end of ‘town’.
