Harehills

Our route to the Go Outdoors store took us past the retail outlets on Harehills Lane. The shops reflect the ever evolving immigrant population attracted to the area by the cheap accommodation in the form of terraces of back-to-backs. It has always been a densely populated area.

In the past the local Montague Burton’s textiles factory employed 10,000 workers.
Harehills has been home to Irish, Jewish and Eastern Europeans immigrant workers.

Today the shops serve a predominantly Roma community. The fashion is not to my tastes, anyway I don't think they’d have the yellow jumpsuit in my size!

I found what I was looking for at Go Outdoors; a pair of walking shoes and a waterproof jacket. Hopefully they will both endure for years.
