Living my dream

Water

Even though we have not had much of a summer, the soil is still quite dry and I am following my watering schedule for the food beds with diligence.

Fortunately for the Night-Scented Stocks (Nicotiana spp.) they share a bed with my tea bushes and lemon tree. So unlike most of the flowering plants which get an occasional drink, these are watered deeply each Monday (according to the schedule). And they are flourishing.

I love the flowers, but I haven't smelled their scent - despite the fact I planted them immediately below my bedroom window - mainly because I am fast asleep before darkness falls. Maybe as nights draw in a wee bit I will detect the wafts.

Summer actually reappeared for the day. 24C with wall to wall sunshine and an easterly breeze, from which Chez M&B is mostly sheltered.

1kg of raspberries and 1kg of blackcurrants were harvested. And almost immediately given away.

Thank you again for all the love and concern for Bean. She has had another restorative day, sleeping, eating her three meals and drinking water. We have had a couple of 20 minute walks, which is plenty for her on a hot day.

I won't be able to tell if she puts on any weight because I look at her all the time, so on Thursday she has the first weigh-in at the vets, which will take place every week until she is around the right weight again.

Slow weight-gain will be a signal to try her on meds to support her heart function, which vet E believes is as the root cause of her loss of weight (which was so dramatically exacerbated by a bug giving her acute diarrhoea).

I am impatient for Beanio to be well again, but this will take time. And she seems content enough, unaware of any drama or anxiety around her, so I am trying to follow her zen-like example!
