Stitched up
These patterns always remind me of embroidery or weaving. I've been very uninspired blip-wise for the last few days and deleted the few photos I took, but this view jumped out at me, especially when I saw the red car approaching.
We've had a quiet few days. I've been nurturing my slowly reviving starter and actually started a loaf with it today. We went to see Sue again on Friday; she was a bit better than last time, and we went for a very slow walk round the corridors.
Yesterday evening we watched The Small Back Room, a Powell and Pressburger film I hadn't seen before. It was considered a flop when it came out in 1949, and most people seem to think it's a bit of a dud, but we found a lot to like about it. Although the plot is straightforward, it has a noir-ish, claustrophobic atmosphere, and P&P regulars David Farrar and Kathleen Byron are wonderful in the lead roles. The cinematography is brilliant with dark interiors, oppressive close-ups, beams of light cast on faces otherwise in shadow, and finally an expansive open-air scene on Chesil Beach, where Farrar's character finds redemption.
