I've just found out there is a similar UK dish - beef olives.  Well known in Poland,  Austria  & Czech Republic.  

First time I've ever made them. Delicious they were too, even if I say so myself. 

Thin slices of beef covered in mustard, onions & parsley, bacon & rolled up in gherkins. Braised & then stewed, in my case with carrots, celery & tomato puree  & finally boiled. potatoes.
