Seal Tracks
A morning spent Seal Wardening at Winterton on Sea. This is not my normal venue but is closer to home by about 2 miles! The authorities have just re-opened the beach as most of the seals have now gone, with a couple of adults left on the beach and some weaned pups resting in the dunes.
The image is of a pair of tracks made by a bull seal pursuing a female down the beach in order to try and mate with her. I watched the goings on from about 30m away as he chased her down from the dunes to the edge of the sea.
The female had left her late born pup in the dunes whilst she tried to deal with the bull once and for all. Latest reports (Friday) suggest the female is back in the dunes, still feeding her pup, whilst the bull watches on from the top of the beach still waiting. The seal equivalent of a Mexican Stand-off! It is endlessly fascinating watching these creatures.
