Mudie Water

Mudie Water

Well, it is our nice water lilly emerging in the sunshine out of the garden pond - in muddy water of course. That is the pun which complements today's news - heralding a storm to come, and deceptively trivial yet incredibly important. Today on the 'World at One' on BBC Radio 4, George Mudie, a Labour MP, effectively said; "The Emperor has got no Clothes". He is a highly respected, if cynical and very qualified back bencher, who just happened to say what we have all been thinking. Ed Milliband is not "going to cut the mustard" in terms of over turning the Coalition government at the next election. He is highly intellectual (or so he thinks and his background indicates) but also very highly ineffectual. There are no real alternative policies to the present government's ever right wing agenda, and in reality perhaps Labour are just mimics, offering more of the same but never really being brave enough to offer transformative alternatives.

Then the usual response followed by the campaign manager, Sadiq Khan, the Shadow Justice Secretary, who was himself highly intellectual, and totally ineffectual in his counter response to Mudie's claims. This was pure 'QED' and almost a self-fulfilling prophecy. All Khan could mutter on about (and I counted it about 5 times) was that Labour were not engaging in communicating their new policies because they were so involved in ....wait for it...."Heavy Lifting". OK, WTF is "Heavy Lifting" ?? This man lost his audience, even erudite Radio 4 listeners within the first 10 seconds of his interview response. What hope convincing Daily Mail readers of any alternative policies or new government agenda.

What that has got to with my Water Lilly (nice picture though) is only that this has all Muddied the Waters !!

Well done George Mudie, for saying what we are all thinking :)
