Woven fabric

Lots of light today so I got on with some sewing/ playing. I am enjoying experimenting with mixing scraps of fabric. I have done quite a bit of this kind of fabric weaving in the past and  love how the little strips of fabric blend together to make a new piece of fabric. It is currently pinned together with tiny pins and then I will tack it and finally stitch all over it.

I have added an extra of granddaughter Ella, for whom I bought the sewing machine in December. I am sad that I cannot be around to help her get on with the machine but she has been determined to figure it out for herself. The photo is not good as it is a screenshot from the Zoom session we had a few days ago when she showed us what she has been doing - stitching tiny squares of fabric, from a pack I gave her a while back, onto a plain bit of fabric which I suggested that she practise on. Well she figured that she could create a more interesting piece to practise on by pinning little bits down and then machine stitching all over them - I think she was emulating what we have done in the past with hand stitching. Very enterprising I thought. Apparently she has also mended a blanket (‘a bit wobbly’ she said - ‘really good’ shouted her sister). She has also mended a few other things. I still wish I could spend time with her and the machine but perhaps she is okay left to her own devices.

Lots of runners coming past all day but we have been watching the leader, the guy we met yesterday, - see first extra  - as he nears the finish. He is apparently a great guy and has lots of people rooting for him. It's exciting watching him get to the end.
