Fibre "communication"
A much warmer, but very misty day.
The lack of joined up communication on the part of Circet continued today.
After the aborted attempt last month, and the "survey" visit on Saturday, I had a phone call at about 10am today to check that the appointment for the installation of our fibre broadband was still OK for Thursday. I assured them it was, and the guy on the phone said there would be a preparatory visit the day before to do necessary work outside - but not apparently expecting that we needed to be around for that.
Half an hour later, another phone call - "we're here to do the preparatory work, we're outside your gate, are you in, and can we have access?" Fortunately, yes, we were in. Turned out, the only thing they weren't doing was actually bringing the broadband right into the house; they couldn't have done the job if we hadn't been in.
They looked again at the duct bringing the telephone wire to the house. Thought they probably could use it, but would need to dig about a metre down to find the end nearest the pole. Thought about the whole mechanics of digging a trench up the hedge, with the concerns regarding the automower wire. And then proposed an overhead wire to the house. We were happy for them to do that if they were happy it wasn't too long a span - they were happy.
They did have a hoist, so were able to mount it on the wobbly pole at the corner of the garden, and from there it comes to the top corner of our house. Then down the side of the house. They then took the wire across the road from the wobbly pole on our side to the telegraph pole on the other side, and presumably connected it to the fibre cable installed there several months ago.
All that remains for the installer to do on Thursday is bring the cable through our wall and connect it to the modem.
