Echolocation
After PIlates on the floor this morning we decided to take Spike to the field with his red ball which makes a noise when it lands. He gets a lot of exercise and we don't have to do much. It's fascinating to watch him zero in on the ball. Remarkable too. He finds it every time, though often after quite a bit of circling and zig-zagging. The gardener was there trimming around the trees and the noise of his trimmer threw Spike off occasionally. He had clearly just mowed as we came home with grass on grassy shoes and Spike had green feet.
David has now finished switching the washer and dryer, and I talked to him about covering the sort of grotty countertop with tile or something a little easier to clean. He apologised for leaving us in the lurch a couple of years ago when he went into 'hibernation' as he put it, and took the grubby cupboard doors from under the kitchen sink off to get the paint matched.
We talked to Matt last night. He's hanging in there and not in any immediate danger, but the high winds, creating an 'exceptional high risk red flag warning' are putting everybody on edge. The winds are supposed to ease by tomorrow night. There was an article in the paper this morning about a family who lost their home in the Tubbs fire in Santa Rosa in 2017, moved to Pacific Palisades and just lost their home there. They seemed remarkably resigned, if not exactly upbeat about it. A lot of people in these fires are uninsured because they were cancelled by their insurance companies for living in a 'high fire risk' area. Isn't that why we get insurance? It's going to be a mess sorting out the whole insurance situation here and probably in other states experiencing other kinds of weather disasters. We're lucky to have it an what we have is very expensive and with of very good coverage.
The surgeon general has come out with a statement that wine is bad for your health and calling for more stringent labeling. Not very good timing durning these stressful times when a nice glass of wine is called for....
