Melrose Abbey

We got no further than Melrose today, not wanting to spend too much time in the car. The forecast was for rain all day, but in fact there was very little.

We explored Melrose Abbey, in ruins now but well kept with mown lawns around the remains of cloisters and refectory. We listened to our audio guides and learnt about the hard life of the Cistercians.

In contrast, we walked into the lovely little town of Melrose and had a sandwich in an up market cafe. I'm glad I'm not a Cistercian!

Homeward bound tomorrow but taking three days to get there. Probably no WiFi so I'll catch up on Sunday or Monday.
