St Augustine

Grey gloomy cloudy day - cold !!!

We had a scheduled double appointment for physio on Friday, but I got a text from friend/physio that she had a cancellation this morning.  We got ourselves down there by 10am (30minute drive) - me for my knee, Doug for his neck.
We then went to The Bakery for an early lunch.  Very delicious.
I had decided what my blip would be, the church where my Mum and Dad got married back in April 1941.  I took a few photos from the outside, and tried the door, and a  nice surprise it was open.  We had a lovely look around inside, it really has a stunning interior and the chap that was there incase of visitors was full of knowledge.  He was interested as to why I was so interested and of course told him that my folks were married here.
The Lychgate is unusual in New Zealand churches, but quite common in England. Lych is an old English word for body, and a Lychgate was where a coffin was carried by the bearers to be met by the Vicar.
I got out the album I made for my Mum on her 80th birthday to see what photos I had of the church and have included a photo to show of my Mum walking with her Dad (my Poppa) into the church.   Interestingly, in the old photo at the entrance into the church is a shoe cleaner/scraper and today some 84 years later it is still there.
In extra is a collage of the interior
