The early duckling was put under Bro1's watchful eye as it's turning out to be a bold little adventurer already. It wasn't going to stay still but the other one on Bro1's knee only hatched about 4 hours ago so is still sleepy after such a big effort to hatch. It was trying to hatch from the wrong end of the egg and had been struggling to progress since late last night. I decided to intervene this morning when it became clear it was ready and desperate to get out but was simply in the wrong position. Some chipping and peeling back of egg shell and membrane, a wrap in a warm damp piece of kitchen towel and some more peeling away of shell until only half the shell was left. I popped it back in the incubator & waited with jangling nerves for about 10 minutes until it kicked it's way out. Phew.
