Full Wolf Moon Dancing Inside a Corona of Fire
January's full moon - called the Wolf Moon, the Ice Moon, and the Old Moon - waxes completely full around 5:30 in the afternoon on Monday. But it was plenty full on Sunday night, when it danced with the clouds inside a marvelous fiery orange corona.
I saw the moon coming and going through the clouds, from a vantage point in our living room. The moon called to me, and I went outside and placed myself, lying flat on my back, over the top few steps on our front porch. From there, I had a wonderful view, and I shot almost 70 photos of the dancing moon.
Here is one of my better, clearer shots. I liked that you could see the moon's face. The corona of fire was a real bonus, and it made everything so much more dramatic. So here is a celebration of a full moon on fire, in the depths of winter.
My soundtrack song is one you don't hear every day. It's a sort of spooky one by David Bowie, from the 1982 film Cat People: Putting Out Fire.
