Growing free
After heavy rain yesterday, today was merely drizzly. During a sunny break I walked through the village garden to the gym for an exercise session. Along the way I photographed this striking red-stemmed plant with emerging flower.
I think it's Philodendron Imperial Red. One of my plant books says, about philodendrons generally, that the seedy specimens one sees in office foyers give no hint of the magnificence of these durable plants growing free in tropical gardens.
The red stems of this species have an attractive rhubarb-like appearance but I read that they are toxic to human and animals.
