A sundae play date !
I would like to have blipped a picture of Arthur and Freya wearing their ice creams on their faces but as that’s not possible I’ve blipped the view from the Waffle House window that is linked to the historic Samlesbury Hall .
We had arranged a play date and they came for lunch and then we headed out for pudding at the Waffle House . There is an imaginative play area which presented an ideal opportunity to run off all their excess energy before we returned them to their parents . Arthur chose a chocolate ice cream and Freya chose a bright blue something or other . The scoops were large and at one point even their noses had a coating . I’ve got some great photos which I shall enjoy showing them .
I’m always so heartened by their love of books , our house is overflowing with them , so many from when our children were small. We read quite a selection and then the stories were incorporated into their play .Arthur leads and Freya follows , keeping up with her big brother despite the age difference. Earlier, Arthur had had a big upset and Freya brought a book over and sat on a stool to “read “ him a story . She already understands that it’s the best antidote for when his emotions overwhelm him . How does a two year old get to be so emotionally intelligent, she notices such a lot that would pass most children by . Jess and I often talk about how we must make sure she doesn’t get the idea that it’s her job to look after everyone else. It’s not always easy for empathetic and nurturing people to get the balance right .
We rounded off the day with an unexpectedly long chat, talking to our youngest and catching up on the latest wedding plans.
They had a food tasting appointment yesterday, another thing to tick off their list . There are lots of “food issues,” amongst the guests to be accommodated so choosing the menu will be an adventure all by itself ! They are very thoughtful.
