Debris

It was a bit milder today so I went down by the river to find some fungi. But I was impressed by all these leaves and bits of debris in the overhanging branches of the trees after the recent floods. These are a couple of metres above the normal river level.
The whole area is a flood plain and has been for ever. If the river was dredged as some people have been suggesting, then communities downstream would be inundated . A bit  of road flooding is not really that bad compared with your house being awash with river water.
It’s never as simple as it seems.
In the extra is a fresh water mussel by the river which I think shows that the water is pretty clean.
